Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's differences with Ghulam Ishaq Khan

In this regard, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif says that my relationship with Ghulam Ishaq Khan was old before he was the chairman of the senate. After the death of General Zia-ul-Haq in a plane crash, he became the president under the constitution. I had a good relationship with him till he started playing games with me. I don't think there has ever been anything disrespectful to me. I always respected them. I never tried to deceive them. Nor did I ever try to exceed my authority. They disagreed with our policies. For example, he was against the government's de-nationalization policy. He used to make such statements. I think there should be an atmosphere of cooperation between the opposition and the government to work and such conditions should exist. When we decided to offer the chairmanship of the Foreign Affairs Committee to Benazir Bhutto, she strongly objected. He said, "Why have you done this?" He met many people with me, including Shahbaz Sharif. It was clear to them that we wanted to create an atmosphere where the opposition and the government could work together. But they were not happy that way. He also expressed his displeasure over this and then when I said that these parts of the eighth amendment of the constitution should be abolished. And the supremacy of parliament must be restored. He felt very bad and I think this was the moment he started to go against me. There were no personal reasons, only disagreement over policies.
